A Slam Backfired On This Guy And Cracked 3 Ribs And Bruised His Lung

*This post has been updated as of August 11th 2015 to currently reflect the author’s view. He originally supported Street Beefs, but after further observation decided to change his opinion.

A Youtube channel called Street Beefs recently put up a video of a fight between 2 guys who had a dispute to settle. One guy went for a hard slam and instead slammed himself into the ground and broke 3 of his ribs, and bruised his lung. The White Dragon Dojang Taekwondo & Martial Arts Blog has reported on Street Beefs before on an earlier article. To understand this group of people who fight in what is called “Satan’s Backyard,” located somewhere in Virginia, you must know about the owner of the backyard and Youtube channel. Street Beefs is run by an ex-con named Chris Stclair who goes by the moniker Scarface (or Face) who hates cops and Republicans, rich people whom he labels the 5% (which is different than the Occupy Movement’s claim of 1% rich people, and he claims rich people all murder and steel money from everyone), the Confederate battle flag, Fox News, is severely biased against White people who are conservative, loves the Black Panther Party, Loves Obama, believes the USA should be flooded with illegal aliens and says anyone who disagrees has “stupid logic,” is obsessed with racism being everywhere in the USA and has an overall extreme passionate hatred for the police and literally believes all cops want to kill black people.

On his Facebook page, he will tolerate you so long as you do not disagree with his opinion. If you view his page he is constantly obsessed with those who “are fake ass bitches” and is busy explaining why he is humble and legit and has no need for anyone who disagrees with his posts. Basically, he is a conceited know-it-all dictator on his page and Facebook group who is extremely thin skinned and cannot handle 1 ounce of criticism both on social/political issues and martial arts technique. He may add you as a friend and even allow you on the Street Beefs Facebook group, but once you dissent on one of his ignorant comments about cops, his obsession with white racists or any of the absolutely baseless comments he makes he will disown you. He will proceed to ignore you like a passive aggressive girl. His personal Facebook constantly shows anti-cop meme’s and other ridiculousness. He is literally one of the most thin skinned people I have ever met and is extremely close mined, intolerant, and bigoted.

For example here is a post on August 5th:

“I gotta be honest….
If it werent for how good it works for promoting our fights, i would GLEEFULLY delete my facebook account and NEVER look back..
I said it before…my bro craven deleted his fb years ago, and he warned me id hate it…well, i DO.
The fake, funny, strange sh!t i see on here id NEVER deal with in the real world.
When i walk down the street in the real world i dont hear HALF of the bullsh!t opinions, attitudes, and ideas i hear broadcasted on here.
Then you got people who get butthurt for strange reasons (sometimes for NO reason) and suddenly dissapear from your account.
People say sh!t, and take stances theyd NEVER take face to face.

Unfortunatley our fights have grown in a HUGE way scince i started my facebook so if i want STREETBEEFS to be successful, i GOTTA keep this facebook account going..but i just wanted to make it clear how much i fcking HATE facebook sometimes.”

Man it must be so hard to be a gangsta! Having to deal with Facebook and all the opinions of other people. Being an ex convict who was convicted of some pretty bad crimes gives him street cred yo! What is funny is I believe even he wouldn’t talk this way in real life, especially if it had to be with a professional situation like maybe during a job and using tact when dealing with the general public. And he says that people get “butthurt” for strange reasons. Maybe the reasons are not so strange. Maybe it is because he is an asshole and has extremely ignorant and outright wrong views on cops, America, and things of that nature that piss people off. The only person that seems butthurt is Mr. Face. The rest of his (few) minions left are equally as ignorant and suck ups.

The Street Beefs Facebook page is by invite only and a person can get kicked out easily by disagreeing with his far left extremist views. Apparently, thoughtful debate and intellectual discourse used with common sense, facts, and not on pure emotion is something he is not capable of and will just either disown you or want to physically fight you. He comes from a very far left “street tough” background, so if you are into that ok, but if you are somewhat conservative or think for yourself do not even bother commenting.

He claims that their fights are all about “beefs” between people, for various people in their neighborhood who have scores to settle, but in reality most of their fights are just between guys who want to fight or have some competitive match (who both are usually untrained). Once in awhile there is an actual argument that leads to wanting to fight each other who show up in the backyard to fight. It is something to wonder if any of these actual beefs are that serious and just an excuse to get 2 guys on video fighting, and a little attention to the fighters in the video. VICE is now reporting on them and about to put out a documentary. So, apparently it worked. We will see what kind of angle VICE will take on it when the documentary is released. It should be hilarious, especially because the hipsters at VICE news constantly create false impressions of things and make them a bigger deal than they really are.

Another thing about this channel is their training videos do not emphasize proper techniques and encourage people not to fight with correct technique or even use the speed bag properly. It is very odd. Even so, the concept itself isn’t bad and it provides some hilarious entertainment, and some fun fights here and there. Just do not expect to be friendly with this dude if you suggest even the slightest that 1. The guys fighting should train at a martial arts gym or boxing gym and learn how to actually fight properly, and 2. that you disagree to the smallest faction with his cop hating liberal ideology that gives excuses for criminal thugs. You will get banned instantly, so it is best to watch in silence.

If you criticize the lack of safety, lack of skill or training, bad technique he himself espouses, bad reffing etc., he will simply just insult you or block you. After this video, though, there have been some safety concerns and at least they changed things to prevent something this bad happening again. So I give them credit. I do not think the “Street Beefs’ idea is necessarily bad. I supported it pretty well in the beginning when if irst encountered this channel, but I have my doubts any truly serious “beefs” have actually been in this backyard. And most of the fighters suck and have no real technique, and the few of their “great fighters” are basically white belt level. But they have heart and enthusiasm that is pretty good. Scarface himself has fought a few times and is looking for challengers, but for some reason they always either cancel and back out, or he just isn’t looking for serious competitors harfd enough. The way he fights it is obvious that if any trained fighter fought him he would get knocked out or submitted really easily. Hopefully someone good fights him because his opponents have all sucked and most of the MMA community online knows it. That is why he gets s much criticism, and boy he sure cannot handle that!

Now on to the fight. In this video, the fight was between guy’s who go by the aliases Phoenix an Jordanian Nightmare.

This is the Jordanian Nightmare:

This is Pheonix, he has intense “beef” against the Jordanian Nightmare. This was Pheonix before he slammed himself into oblivion:

In the actual fight video shown below, Phoenix seems to be outclassing the Jordanian Nightmare with decent boxing maneuvers. Then Jordanian Nightmare does a spin kick to the Phoenix’s knee which sets him off balance briefly but he recovers really fast and it did not phase him. Even so the low spin kick attempt was pretty cool an could have been effective if he hit the right target on the leg. Phoenix then continues to dominate against his opponent and takes his back and goes for a suplex! Unfortunately, he seemed to forget that in a suplex you grab the body lower, arch/bridge your back more, and make sure the other guys head or upper-back in the shoulder area hits the ground first. Instead he pulls his opponent directly on top of him as he falls back slamming his own back on the dirt and grass as well as allowing his opponents full body weight to crash down on top of him. Fight over. Cracked ribs, bruised lung, and agony ensue. He was totally airborne when he slammed too! He was taken to an ER shortly after this and he seems to be doing better and will recover. But dang!!

This shows that fighting outside in another environment other than a gym or competition cage or ring can yield different results. Most likely if this was done in an MMA fight on a matted cage surface he would not have had this bad of an injury. The ground is deadly and this is why martial arts such as Judo that emphasize throwing and slams are seriously deadly. Imagine a fight on cement where someone was thrown hard on it. Instant death possibly. This is why Judo has the rule of ippon which means “one full point” in Japanese. This is basically “one finishing slam or technique” which would end the fight. Ippon basically means “fight ender” and is an expression used in Japanese martial arts sports such as Karate and Judo to declare a point that usually counts as an instant win. This has the philosophy as a technique being deadly and ending a fight. In Judo the throws and slams that land an opponent on their back are victories. But not very often to people in such sports ippon themselves like Phoenix did. This is why backyard fighting or street fighting is pretty dangerous and should not just happen with unprofessionals watching in a backyard unless there have been serious safety measures put in place.

In a real fight a person needs to try not to harm them self by doing crazy wrestling moves. Make sure you can pull them off before attempting. Wrestlers often miscalculate the necessity to wear pants over shorts on rough ground, and sometimes don’t have the sense that the outside ground is not a high school wrestling mat. Do not ippon yourself! So what did it prove for this dude to get that injured in a local backyard? Was it worth it? Was their “serious beef” so serious it HAD to end this way? I doubt it.

Street Beefs has recently been reported on and filmed by the VICE News channel and will put out a mini documentary on their activities for their Fight Land special interest channel that covers MMA an other martial arts stories. So be sure to pay attention for that and check it out. Check out the Street Beefs YouTube page for some hilarious entertainment of guys flailing arms and limbs fighting in a backyard other silly antics, such as Face’s explanations for why fights are cancelled, all his haters who thin he should learn from a gym and fight real opponents and things of that nature. Enjoy!

How Not To Become A Murder Victim

There are a lot of evil people in the world. There are many criminals who murder. It could be someone mugging you, a gang member, someone who just gets mad and goes on a rampage, a sociopath who takes his mental state up a notch to murder, or a serial killer who just loves to kill. Of course there are also rapists who don’t happen to murder their victims, but often times rapists also murder their victims. Most people who are normal do not want to become murder victims. Maybe there are a few weirdos out there who want to die like that because they are insane or sick, but yes, people generally do not want to become a murder victim. There are a few easy and common sense steps to take in order not to be murdered. I have studied and heard about many cases of murders and I notice that most victims make similar mistakes and totally lack common sense. To avoid being killed by a maniac is a logical process. It is pretty easy to avoid in most cases. All though there are times when someone who is actually doing everything right can be killed. But it is very rare compared to the other victims. Usually children who are weaker or the mentally disabled can be easily killed. Even so, if you are a typical person you can avoid it. In this article I will try to cover all of the bases I can think of for how to NOT become a murder victim. Typical humans can avoid being murdered by following these easy steps.

1. Always be aware of your environment. This is to say BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS! This is not that hard. Maybe it takes a little mental effort because you might not be able to day dream, but this is a good thing! Daydreaming can get you killed! When going into places you are not familiar with (or a public place such as a street, road, parking lot, hallway, building, forest, or getting into your car and not paying attention to what was around you before you opened your door to load it etc.) observe everything! How many people in the Walmart parking lot are out there? How is the lighting? Are there tall trucks or cars parked next to your car where someone could hide and not be seen? Who is behind you? An old lady taking her cart out, or some weird gang banger in a hoodie (oh I said hoodie! oh no call Al Sharpton!) hiding his face walking near you? Maybe a weird guy with a crazy beard? Maybe a normal dad looking man with a football hat on. ANYONE of these people could be a serial killer. Looks can be deceiving, but often times taking things at face value is smart. Generally, do not judge a book by its cover. But then, still, take in observations.

The way people dress or look communicates something. Like it or not dressing in clothes that look like gang banger attire often times actually communicates that that person literally is a gang banger, or at least a thug who is a criminal. Sometimes it is not a thug or a criminal but someone who WOULD LIKE to be one; such as a gangster wannabe. Still, even if someone is not actually in a gang or is not yet a criminal, a person with that attitude is dangerous. You cannot read people’s minds so if you feel they could be a threat it is best to listen to your gut instinct. The whole tough guy persona often times is a person about to boil over or one who will succumb to scratch an itch of desire for being a real thug. Someone who wants to become a gangster tends to easily become one. Sometimes fake gang members are more unpredictable and dangerous than real and true gang members. They have more to prove.
Also, a criminal always has to commit their first crime sometime, or a serial killer their first murder. Don’t let it be you. If you personally feel uncomfortable about how someone looks in the way they dress, or their facial expressions, or the way they walk, trust your gut feeling and keep an eye out to avoid them. If a guy in dark sunglasses and a hat and a puffed up collar on his coat seems suspicious to you then try and avoid him. Political correctness can and will get you killed. Offending someone who wears a hoodie is better than allowing that person who wears a hoodie to kill you.
Now back to not judging a book by its cover, do not assume the nice dad looking guy is safe if he asks you what time it is and steps close to you. He may be about to grab you and pull you into his truck. Always remain a safe distance when talking to strangers. A safe distance is a distance that makes it impossible for someone to physically grab you without first traveling toward you a few steps. Make sure it is about 4 steps, enough time for you to run and escape. It is not that hard to walk 1 step and grab someone fast. This is common sense. It should also be taken into account that decent men who use common sense understand it is a bit shady to walk up to a young woman who is alone. Most people who are decent know this and if they do need to ask a question do so at a nonthreatening distance and do not try to communicate a threat. They will then say thanks and go about their business. Even a nice, smiling guy who walks close and appears not to be threatening has no business getting too close to someone. This could be a ploy to make you let your guard down.

2. Do not be alone. Most often a murder victim is killed when they are alone. Usually you will not be singled out or attacked if you have people with you. Think about your situation and where you are at. Should you walk across a parking lot alone at night? Should you walk down a gravel road off the highway a few miles away with only woods around you? Should you drive into a run down seedy neighborhood alone? As a young woman, should you travel alone and stay at a seedy hotel where crack dealers are outside such as a strange downtown location? Think about these types of situations and use common sense. Logic says you should make observations and if something seems unsafe or just a little odd do not go there. If you have friends bring them with you. Don’t be naive! Why walk across a large parking lot with low light alone? Ask the owner of a business or a security guard or a friend to walk with you. Most often women can be kidnapped in such locations or killed on the spot because they are physically weaker than men.

Seedy hotels are not smart to stay at

It is dark and no one else is around. Men are stronger and more intimidating for a potential murderer. It is safer for a typical male to walk to a vehicle in such a location than a typical female. This is not to say that a man cannot also be killed. It depends on the weapon, a gun or knife? Maybe a club to the head from behind? Friends will lessen the chances of a serial killer or mugger to single you out for a target. Ask your male friend to walk to your car with you, or get your car and pull it around for you.
Most murderers want to kill their victims easily without much barriers in the way. Of course there may be some who enjoy a little fight before killing you (very rare but it happens) they generally want to easily dominate you. Bringing 5 friends will keep you safe. Even 1 friend with you makes it harder for both of you to become victims. For women, bringing male friends with you can scare away threats.
Both men and women should not hitchhike or pick up hitchhikers. You don’t know that hitchhiker, he or she could be a killer. If you are walking and think about hitchhiking, don’t! You do not know the driver of the vehicle and they could also be a killer. There have been several freeway killers who murder hitchhikers, or are hitchhikers who kill occupants of vehicles. Don’t take your chances!

Picking up hitchhikers can be dangerous.

Do not go into the apartment of a stranger you just met, do not sit in the car with someone you do not know who offers you a seat (even if it is cold outside, just go back into the establishment you were just at). Do not walk off onto the beach at night with someone you do not know (ladies even if he is cute don’t do it! Offer to sit inside where people are around to talk), do not go into the hotel room of a person you just met either. These kinds of things are just common sense, but unfortunately people do not seem to get it.
Obviously there are times when you HAVE to be alone. And a healthy life is one that allows solitary time as well. We cannot nor do we want to always be around people. Make sure your alone time is spent in a safe place. A park with people, or your own home with a locked door. It must be a familiar place you know everything about and can take proper security precautions. Locked windows and doors, a place where you know the neighbors etc. If for some reason you have to stay in a hotel alone just make sure your door is locked and you look around the hallways when going to an elevator. Please, do not stay at seedy or strange hotels known for murders or drugs. It is not the smartest thing for young women to travel long distances alone, they do it at their own risk. Many times lone females become murder victims when traveling. Stay at places with good reviews with many employees around etc. Do not be vulnerable.

3. Do not hang around with people who are involved in illegal (or unlawful) activity such as drugs, or gangs. Stay away. Being involved or friends with people who are in gangs or involved in selling drugs, or buying drugs puts you in the realm of other people besides your friend who also do illegal things which gives you a higher chance of one of these criminals to end up killing you. Many people who break the law on regular occasions might break the law by murdering you. Your friends who are around such people can bring “who knows what” into your life. If you have a boyfriend who brings over other drug users, or criminals to buy drugs, many strangers can walk into your residence on regular visits. It is smarter to not live in a situation where regular criminals/law breakers/people who do illegal things and strangers are regularly walking into your place of living. Also, do not have a friend who regularly brings you around such people: visits to houses, motels, and other places you might be around them. It would be smart not to put it past people involved in criminal gangs, or other activities, to also decide to murder people someday as well. Not just rapists or serial killers but drug deals gone bad, a revenge killing on your friend where you happen to be a witness and now they have to kill you too, or other dire circumstances. Avoid negative people in your life. You could end up in a house targeted for a drive by shooting or a house massacre and you happened to be hanging out that night. Do not go to parties known to have wild people who do drugs or act like thugs. Often times fights and shootings occur and you might be a victim.

Drug users also abuse their bodies and minds with all of the harmful chemicals they ingest from drug abuse. Drugs that altar the mind are dangerous and cause people to hallucinate. Not every “trip” is safe or fun for the person. Often times people have “bad trips” that make them go crazy and out of control. Sometimes they become extremely paranoid and believe crazy delusions and end up murdering people. Sometimes they are completely out of their minds on drugs while they commit violent acts. The drug PCP gives users extreme physical strength and a feel of ultimate power which often times makes them go berserk and no feelings of pain. Fighting someone on PCP is harder than if they were not on PCP.

Various serial killers have been avid drug users. People like Karla Faye Tucker and her boyfriend Danny Garrett who were serious drug users and involved in sexual deviancy. You do not want to party with such people nor have them as your friends.

4. Do not be friends with or date, or marry a sociopath or someone who has violent tendencies or forms of sexual perversion. For women, if you are dating a man and he randomly does something very strange or odd that feels threatening or very angry you should break up with him and do not take them back.
An example: Your friend meets your new boyfriend who’s name is Dave and gets his name wrong when shaking his hand. She calls him Dan instead. Then your boyfriend Dave, holds her hand tightly and pulls her towards him slightly and his facial expression changes to anger, and he sternly says, “My name is DAVE! Get it right! And don’t you ever forget it!” Your friend becomes alarmed and you are somewhat embarrassed and worried. That is a sign he is probably dangerous. Trust your instinct.         Such behavior is unacceptable and bizarre and shows he has rage inside and violent tendencies. Break up with him right away and never return his calls. Last thing you want to be in is a relationship with a violent person. They may go crazy and kill you.

Example of a classic, violent sociopath from the movie Mad Max:

Such people use violence and intimidation to dominate and control others.

Use your keen observation skills to weed out sociopaths. Never be stupid and assume you are dating a dream guy within 3 weeks of knowing them. Real relationships with trust take time. A sociopath is someone who has zero remorse, guilt, empathy, and other normal traits. They have no conscience and have no belief in right or wrong. They lack morals completely. They will lie, cheat, steel, and other things to win. It is always about their benefit and control. They will do anything to win and stay free to do anything they want. They are usually narcissistic and cannot admit wrong even if they are confronted with total evidence that proves they did something wrong. If you notice this behavior, or your friends question him and bring it up to you, listen to them, and break up with the guy as soon as possible. Women can be sociopaths too so men should do the same thing. Watch how he or she acts and look for signs. Best way is to catch them off guard. Do they manipulate others? Have they treated people rude who did not deserve it? Do their stories seem far fetched? Do they lie constantly? Do not give into pity and try to change them or love them and “win them over” to the good side. Completely reject them and get them out of your life.
You do not want stalkers to follow you your entire life and threaten your safety. They could harm you or your friends. At the first sign of strange behavior leave them and ignore them forever. If you have to call the police and get a restraining order and make sure that if they violate it they get arrested. Never return calls to a stalker or any emails. Do not return any messages even if it is to say “Shut up! Stop harassing me!” Even that is enough to excite them because you are giving them attention. If they harass you to come hang out with them or have a coffee refuse it and ignore them. Normal men who are rejected will accept it and move on in life. Others will keep hounding you until you agree one day to have coffee in their apartment where they stab you to death because you want to leave 5 minutes early. These kinds of people are control freaks and possessors who cannot handle rejection and will murder you for revenge for their ego being hurt and loss of domination over you. Some will use pity to get you to feel sorry for them like they are just a sad socially awkward guy who has no friends and you are their only friend and without you they will die. Maybe they have no friends for a reason. Also, use logical reasoning and common sense to understand the difference between normal lonely people and dangerous sociopaths.

Last thing you want is to wake up in a room like this in some guy’s basement in an unknown location with no chance of escape.

Sexual perversion is another issue. Many sociopaths become sexually perverse because they have no moral convictions since right and wrong do not register or matter to them. Also, people who are not typically sociopaths can also become sexually perverted by certain circumstances. Most people who are sex addicted will satisfy their lusts through non-dangerous means such as pornography, or willing sex partners. But often times the lust of certain people becomes perverted and depraved. Often pornography sets people on a course of more intense highs and more extreme desires. Normal sexual behavior is now boring and they need an extreme thrill and they develop a sick fetish. These fetishes or thrill seeking can lead to depraved sex acts even leading to rape and murdering. Many serial killers are sexual sadists who sexually torture and kill victims. If you know people who are addicted to pornography, especially if it extreme or beyond normal sexual acts, you should avoid them and do not let them near your family. Keep them at a distance. Yes, if you work with people who are into porn or depraved sex do not allow them into your personal life beyond work. If someone is constantly obsessed with sex and bizarre sexuality you should avoid them. The best bet is for people to avoid others who frequently watch porn, visit strip clubs, solicit prostitutes, or have sex with anyone. Avoid one night stands, why risk it? You do not know them, they could be leading you to a torture chamber where you cannot escape. You cannot trust anyone who you just met. Especially someone who met you for the sole purpose of having sex. They simply are using you, as you are them, for sexual pleasure. It is very dangerous. Do not become a person who sleeps around with random people, or do not become a prostitute. Many victims of serial killers are prostitutes, or people who generally love to party and go clubbing or bar hopping. People with low inhibitions. Make sure that if you do decide to go clubbing or bar hopping, you understand that there is a risk of strange people approaching you who are patrons of such establishments, and bring friends. Do not go home with random guys or invite them over.
Also, do not frequent sex shops or be anywhere near them, or any kind of sex club. These are magnets for the sexually depraved psychopaths who you might meet. Or at least friends of potential crazies they might introduce you to later. Swingers clubs and the like have been known to be places serial killers hang out in. Eventually their abnormal sex acts are not enough and they must fall deeper into depravity and might end up making you their murder victim. This goes for both homosexual and heterosexuals. Yes, the homosexual scene has much dark deviancy as many famous serial killers were male homosexuals (Jeffrey Dahmer, Daniel Conahan, Dean Corll, William George Bonin etc.), but of course heterosexual, sexual sadists often make females their victims. Also, some females have also become serial killers but it is not as often as males. So men also need to not assume they are safe to participate in such clubs and activities. Men need to understand there are also females like Jodi Arias who are a living example of a sexually deviant, female killer. It is just safer and smarter to not engage in sexual deviancy and to behave in a normal sexual way where time is taken, relationships are developed etc. Just make sure it is with the right person.

Serial killer cult member Manuela Ruda: “I signed my soul to Satan.”

5. Do not be friends with people involved in the Occult or Satan worship, and do not be involved in it yourself. Whatever your beliefs are about supernatural things, whether you believe people can become demon possessed or gain magic powers through sorcery, or you believe it is a mental delusion in crazy people who take things too serious does not matter. The fact is often times people involved in the occult or Satan worship, or various self styled Satanists or witches etc. are dangerous people and untrustworthy. Of course not all people involved in witchcraft religions, Satanic organizations, or claim to practice magic are murderers. Some are harmless people with alternative views on life. I just personally do not want to be around such people or be friends with them. I would keep them at a distance simply because they have conflicting moral standards. Satanists, whether it be literal worship of a being named Satan or a theatrical Church of Satan member who uses it for shock value, have opposite moral values compared to traditional religions. Selfishness and lying are not considered evil in such beliefs. I personally do not want people who have alternative morality around me. Such people can be negative to your life.
Despite what atheist Satanists would claim, there are other types of occult practitioners and self styled Satanists who actually believe in demonic spirits and possession as well as magic spells. These people, whether you want to believe are literally demon possessed or delusional, sometimes can have the same result: murder. And they might murder you. There are a lot of ritual crimes where people have murdered other humans for sacrifices to a spirit being or to Satan. Famous Serial Killers such as Richard Ramirez (the Night Stalker) and David Berkowitz (the Son of Sam) were devil worshipers and believed their victims were sacrifices to Satan to give them power. There have also been groups of people who plan a murder of an unsuspecting victim such as the drug cartel, Satanic cult in Mexico led by Adolfo Jesus Constanzo in the 1980’s. People who get involved in occult practices often times put their minds into altered states, or are people who are susceptible to strong delusions and become schizophrenic. Often times the occult practices and seances are mixed with drug abuse making it even worse. Hanging out with people regularly involved in occult quests or worshiping of evil entities or philosophies can be hazardous to your health.

6. Do not trust strangers or people you just met. Make sure you do not trust anyone who you have not known a decent amount of time and have not met their social circle or family. Online dating poses a threat so make sure when you meet for the first time it is in a public place and you have friends around. Maybe bring friends to sit at another table who will keep an eye on you. Do not just invite the person over to your apartment when you only have known them for a short while. Often, victims of killers will invite them over to their house within 3 weeks of knowing them. How many dates is that? 3-6 total? How is that enough time to decide to have sex or invite someone to stay over? This is risky behavior and victims tend to be people who do this. Do not be desperate, and take your time in relationships! If you know someone and have never met their family or friends you should not be doing such things yet.
One example: A guy you just met at a bar talks to you for a few hours. Then he asks you to come over to his place, or he could come to yours. He obviously wants to get you alone for sex. Doing this would not be in your best interest because while you may think it’s just going to be a fun time, you do not know him and are putting yourself in a vulnerable situation. Are you really that type of girl? What if his plans are to kill you in a horrible sexual crime? You never know. Also, it is not implausible that sometimes females bait men into becoming their victims or to bring them to another person who wants them to be their victim such as a boyfriend/girlfriend team of killers. Even as a male you might want to take the new friendship/relationship slow before just going somewhere alone with them. Of course guys stand a better chance of fighting an attacker than a lone female victim would.
Another example: a guy rides up on his motorcycle and you are a young female. He starts complimenting you and flirting. You notice his biker vest has the logo of a notorious outlaw biker gang. He asks you to get on the back of his bike for a wild ride and to go party. It is probably best to decline in a polite manner and leave the area. You know he is in a criminal gang which brings criminal activity around them which is negative for you. You don’t know his intentions and the outlaw affiliation is a big red flag that he is dangerous.

Hey girl, you are looking fine. Wanna go for a ride and party?

7. Do not appear to be safe to approach by random strangers. You can avoid being murdered by not overly smiling at strangers or “sharing a moment” with someone you have not talked to with prolonged eye contact. Some crazy people,

A stalker can follow someone around who is ignoring his surroundings by walking and texting then mug him or murder him.

schizophrenics, and other weirdos might make it more than it appears to be. Of course it is necessary to make eye contact as you walk by people for less than a second to show you are aware and confident (which scars away some attackers) but do not go out of your way or be approachable by just anyone. You could have met a new stalker who will harass and follow you forever and murder you later. Do not look distracted by walking and texting or talking on your cellphone. You could be easy to attack.
Also, being easily approachable makes you a target for muggings and rapes. Make sure you show confidence, attitude, and strength, and are aware of your surroundings when walking down the street. Show confidence in the way you walk and carry yourself.

8. Know how to fight. Learn martial arts. Knowing how to fight is essential for self protection. If you are aware of your surroundings and become aware that a certain person is about to try and kill you but then you do not know how to fight you are pretty much left with a very low chance for survival. Knowing how to fight will solve the rest of the problem. You must be aware of your environment as well as know how to defend yourself effectively. Learning a serious martial art from a qualified instructor who emphasis self defense is key. You need to take martial arts with the intention of learning how to fight. It is not sport you must train in and it is not just a fitness fad either. MMA is good for sparring practice, but lacks conviction for the perfection of techniques and does not train a self defense mindset. Training in a traditional martial art that teaches hard sparring is a better option. Just avoid mcdojos/mcdojangs and sport oriented gyms. Find someone who will teach you vital striking, joint locks, takedowns, ground defense, and everything else you need to survive a street fight.
When you know how to fight, if a killer attacks you, you can fight back and deflect their initial attacks. You can disable and even kill them before they have a chance to kill you. If one attacks you and you then end up in a struggle you could get them off of you if they take you to the ground, or deflect a weapon attack and escape, or just strike them in vital areas and beat them into incapacitation or choke them out. Whatever you have to do to live!

9. Be physically fit and healthy. To be a good fighter or to be generally hard to kill you must be in good health and have good fitness. If you can run faster and longer they cannot catch up with you easily. You could run to a safe location such as a store with people who can help you. Or you can fight longer than them and they will get tired before you and you can take advantage of them and turn the tables and make them your victim instead. Also, it takes will power to survive intense situations such as being harmed or hurt and taking the advantage at the right moment through pain and agony to survive and live. What if he is cutting you? What if he is beating you? What if he has trapped you? Being healthy makes you last longer so you can eventually find the moment to escape or kill them. There are various stories where women were in horrible situations in much pain from a killer and they still survived by sheer will and strength. Weaker people would not last.
Along with physical fitness you must be mentally fit as well. A strong mind with an intention and will to survive is a must. Otherwise you may fade out and allow yourself to die. Martial arts are a great way to train your mind to be strong willed. Indomitable spirit!

10. Own a weapon, carry it, and know how to use it. Obviously, a gun is a very effective way to survive a criminal attack. A mugger, burglar, rapist, terrorist what have you, can be killed simply by pointing it at them and pulling the trigger. You must know how to use the gun, respect it, and have skill in aiming it to hit your target. Firearm practice is important. Often times the killers will use a gun to threaten you or just shoot you, but if you shoot them first in the right spot they cannot harm you. Target practice will help you aim for the right spots to neutralize them. If you miss or hit another part of their body that is not vital they can still keep attacking you. Aim to kill. Do not aim to simply injure.
A knife is also a handy weapon if you know how to use it. If you train to use a knife and have an understanding of a blade you can use a knife to stab and slash an attacker. Just like a firearm you must know how to cut and thrust into vital areas that cause the most pain and damage. The spots that cause death to the attacker are the best. Know which arteries to slash and what pressure points to stab into to stop an attacker. Be fast. Learn a knife martial art style such as Kali. Or train under an instructor who trains to use weapons on top of your hand to hand combat. Know how to keep your knife and not allow it to be turned against you and learn how to turn an enemies knife against himself. Also, know empty hand combat and be skilled at it, do not only rely on a weapon. Learn to improvise weapons as well. Take every day objects and make them become a weapon. Use your observation skills to scan the environment and look for a weapon. Having a weapon is more threatening and more dangerous for an attacker than if they were facing someone with no weapon.

With common sense it can be easy to avoid being a murder victim. Avoid certain types of people. Sometimes killers can be a mix of the various things mentioned above. There have been literally Satanic, drug dealing, drug abusing, sexually perverted, sadistic, sociopathic, cannibal, criminals such as Adolfo Constanzo who did it all. Then there are others who are one or the other types of things. It does not matter the scale or degree of murder people commit, the fact is they murder period. Avoid such people. Unfortunately, some victims have no choice who they are around since some people have bad parents who either abuse them, or are friends with bad people such as a dad who uses drugs and often brings bad people around his home. These are sad cases and it is hard for such people to get help.

If a criminal does threaten you, or hold you at gun point or knife point, and commands you to go with them, refuse! Do not go with them! Run away, let them try and shoot you there instead. Usually the killer, if he cannot get you to go with him, will either let you go or run away, or try to attack you to submit you and make you go with him (at which point you can use martial arts techniques to fight). Hopefully he lets you go or runs away and looks for another victim which often happens. Going with them gives him total control over your body and he has you trapped and will take you to a different location, one he is familiar with and can kill you there. He may torture you to death and rape you as well. If he chooses to shoot you right there because you refuse to go with him it is a better death than being taken to a place with no chance of escape and prolonged suffering before death. If you have a gun you can shoot him on the spot before he pulls his trigger! Some killers keep their victims alive for weeks before killing them. Also, if you do get shot or stabbed you might live through it. But I believe you should ALWAYS FIGHT BACK! Be vigilant and vicious! If he will not let you go and wants to kill you then wait for the right moment to attack him first and grab his gun or pull out your own and shoot him. Do anything you can to stop him and escape. Once you feel you are safe continue to run, do not go back to fight him if he is still active. Find help immediately.

Always be aware of your surroundings and environment. Stay in proper shape, learn to use weapons, learn martial arts. Have total confidence. Do not fear murderers or become paranoid and think a predator is hiding in the bushes and around every corner. Live life, but just use common sense and avoid negative people and if someone communicates to you a threatening thing such as how they dress or facial expression trust your gut instinct and avoid them. Even if they are not actually dangerous people you are still better off not taking your chances. Do not be alone or go to secluded areas without friends, or without telling people where you are going. Do not talk to random strangers or go places with someone you just met. Stay away from drugs, illegal activity and sexual deviancy or one night stands. Hold on to moral values and take things slow. If any person shows signs of aggressive, or violent psychopathic behavior you must purge them from our life as soon as possible. Your life is far more important than political correctness as well. Profiling is necessary in many cases in order to not end up in bad situations. Never go anywhere with anyone you do not know well alone for any reason. Having friends with you helps, but it is also possible a killer could trap and murder multiple people at once so make sure both of you work together to use “street smarts” and common sense. In an active shooter situation make sure you know your escape routes and how to hide, or shoot them first. Make sure all of your friends you hang out with are using common sense as not to attract negative attention. Don’t do stupid things like hitchhiking, or traveling the world alone and staying at seedy hotels for cheap. Research where you are going and know your environment. Avoid fighting or arguments with drunk people or anyone on the streets or in bars. If you are not fighting there is no chance for you to be hurt. If you end up in a fight you then have increased the chances of bodily harm to you and maybe someone in a drunken rage will beat you to death if he gets the upper hand. You never know.

Example of nearly being beaten to death on the streets. Avoid fights.

The general rule to avoid being a murder victim is to use common sense, be observant of your surroundings, embrace traditional morals, avoid illegal activity, and avoid negative people and be on guard for signs of potential threats in people’s psyche such as sociopathic tendencies and avoid street fights. Learn martial arts and also if you can, learn to use a weapon. The key to not being a murder victim is to avoid attitudes and behaviors that make you a victim. Be logical and rational with street smarts, which is to say use common sense and don’t be naive.

On The Subject Of Joint Lock Availability In Street Fights And Groin Shots

Joint locks are readily available in certain situations

In my experience people have often said no one will hold you long enough to where you could have the ability to perform a wrist lock or standing armbar. They say it is unrealistic to drill wrist locks, armbars, elbow and shoulder locks etc. They say no one will hold you like that, or take the time to hold you long enough for you to be able to joint lock someone and take them out. I disagree and believe in many circumstances one could easily joint lock and break the wrist, arm, elbow, and dislocate shoulders in a street fighting or self defense situation. It depends on how an attacker is holding you or if he is hitting you or not. The following video shows many opportunities the person being assaulted (who happens to look like Nicholas cage lol) could have used if he had trained in martial arts and was not drunk.

I have absolutely no clue what they were fighting over or why the guy thought he needed to apprehend the other guy and hold him, and then also knee him in the balls and wait for cops to arrive. That is beside the point of this short article.

Groin shots are not always a fight ender

The man in the blue jacket was obviously kneed in the balls, and yet he was not harmed enough to cause him to drop down or fall over in pain. He did not quit and was still standing. This shows that a typical groin shot is not always going to end a fight, especially if a guy is drunk. It may or may not cause someone to keel over in pain.

Just some thoughts today on self defense and street fighting situations! Practice wrist and arm locks and shoulder locks from standing! It can work!

Children Need To Learn Self Defense Not Waste Time In A McDojang

“We live in violent times” is a statement pretty much every generation claims. In modern times since the 1900’s every generation since has seemed to think the violence occurring worldwide and even locally is somehow an anomoly.  But this could not be further from the truth. The entire history of mankind is one of violence. It should be common sense that people need to learn how to fight and protect themselves no matter what kind of society they live in. This was the norm for practically every culture in history. Learning to fight was part of becoming an adult and being self sufficient.

People in the United States often think much of the new kinds of murder and death occurring is such a far out thing. But one just has to look south of the border to Mexico and understand other countries’ cultures are blood soaked in violence. Much of the United States is full of violence and has been for quite some time. Much of American inner-cities are full of fighting and violence of all types. Only when suburban or off the beaten path communities experience a murder or a troubling gang infiltration do a lot of people assume learning how to use a weapon such as a gun, and learning martial arts is something people might want to start taking up. What confuses people even more is when children murder children such as the case of the Slender Man murder plot and assault with a knife by two 12 year old girls on another girl. Even worse is when a 12 year old boy actually full out murders another boy the age of 9 on a local playground.

The fact is, now, children are attacking and murdering children. Self defense is pretty much mandatory for the well being of children in society. Too many kids who are “just plain evil” are being raised by incompetent parents, as well as such evil children just being evil despite their proper upbringing and good home life. The attack of a 12 year old on a 9 year old boy with a knife is one occasion that shows parents can never really trust unknown kids to play with their own. Parents must be involved and watchful of who their children interact with. In this case when it cannot be supervised, a play session should happen with a child properly instilled in situation awareness. Also, a child should be wary of unknown kids or certain neighborhoods kids who might be dangerous to play with. There has always been neighborhood bullies and juvenile delinquents, and now days some might attack and even kill. This occurrence on the playground in a Michigan mobile home park was random and without a known motive.

One major problem is the fact so many martial arts schools claim to teach self defense when in reality they do not. So many of these schools, deemed mcdojangs because they only care about money, are wasting time and money from parents who want their child to learn how to defend themselves. So much time in such academies children are pretty much baby-sat with silly games and other nonsense that have nothing to do with actually learning martial arts. And when they are claiming to drill self defense the techniques are very suspect and have a very low chance of actually working in a real confrontation. Most of the instructors are told to behave extremely happy and silly and overly enthusiastic in order to coddle kids and make them have fun regardless if they learn anything realistic. This problem causes false security and confidence in kids who are given black belts far too soon and at a young age that is improper for a black belt to be.

Parents need to make sure they enroll their child in a real martial arts school qualified by the traditional organization that oversees it and not a typical franchise chain with its own made up system created strictly for their own group. True Taekwondo exists as a martial art system, of course overseen by an organization from Korea that allows freedom for Taekwondo dojangs to teach what they want and run their programs in the way the instructor personally wants. At the same time they are still teaching proper Taekwondo and proper techniques with their intended combat applications. Other franchise gyms, the mcdojangs, have a corporate structure run like a multi-level-marketing scheme with forced guidelines existing simply to make as much money as possible. In these schools less time worrying about high quality students is spent and more time is spent on making as much money as possible through various gimmicks (belt tests, stripes, patches, birthday parties etc.). So less time teaching children in situation awareness, instilling proper values, giving proper self defense techniques, and instilling real discipline and a warrior mindset.

Children need to attend a Taekwondo gym, or any style of martial art’s gym that instills not only physical skills but proper psychological mindsets for self defense. This includes situational awareness, character assessment of people they would meet in every day life, as well as true combat skills. If parents allowed their kids to be given the “military” style discipline that Taekwondo culture traditionally emphasized and taught to have a since of honor and to hold important the martial arts as a serious life skill then children will have a better chance to avoid being attacked. Maybe they would not have played with another kid in the first place, and if they did play possibly an attack could be avoided by situational awareness, and if the attack occurs regardless then combative defense skills will defeat the attacker as well as escaping and finding an adult to call the police. This is not to say the 9 year old boy lacked sense. It is impossible to know the full story. Sometimes an attack can kill even the most skilled people. That is life. No matter what reason the attack occurred and whatever the child could have done to escape is irrelevant to the point that children today, right now, in our american society, need to learn martial arts, to take them seriously as a life skill, and learn how to fight in order to defend themselves.

Why Taekwondo Can Work In A Street Fight

Here are some reasons why Taekwondo is a valid option for winning a street fight or protecting yourself in a self defense situation. This is also based on kicks alone and not the other parts of Taekwondo such as hand striking, elbows, knees, joint locks, throws etc. So many foolish people keep bad mouthing Taekwondo and claiming it is only flashy kicks that will get you killed in a street fight. In many cases, what people deem flashy kicks actually won a street fight. The following is a list of videos that show evidence of why high kicks, which Taekwondo is known for, can work in a street fight. It is not about the morality of the fighters, why they are fighting, whether or not they are Taekwondo practitioners or not, or who is the good guy or bad guy in each fight. The point is they are kicking high or doing a so called “flashy” spinning kick technique and winning street fight confrontations. This is also not to mention that MMA has already proven Taekwondo techniques brutally effective. What better evidence than guys fighting in streets throwing high kicks and spinning kicks! Here are some reasons why Taekwondo haters are wrong:

White Dragon is a 3rd dan Taekwondo Black Belt with over 19 years experience in the Martial Arts and head instructor of the White Dragon Dojang Martial Arts Training Program.

My Life Was Strengthened By Taekwondo

My martial arts journey started around age 5 watching the movie “The Karate Kid” with my parents and being totally inspired. I thought it was so cool and wanted to learn Karate just like Daniel san! Karate was so mysterious as well! During this time I also would watch pro wrestling and root for Hulk Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior. I spent many afternoons with the neighborhood kids wrestling in the front yard of someone’s house and pretending we are certain wrestlers. In actuality we would do kicks and punches and pretend wrestling moves so it was more like play-karate-pro-wrestling. Doing this activity we figured out front kicks, side kicks and roundkicks on our own. But we called both roundkick and sidekick “sidekick” because we thought it was the same kick just done different. As I got older, other times we pretended we were ninjas or Karate guys, or even the Ninja Turtles or Batman from Nintendo games we played and fought in the front yard.

At age 6 my mom enrolled me into a neighborhood Karate class that was being held at the local middle school. My dad would walk me to the school for my classes. I probably stayed in that class for 1 month before quitting because it was so boring. I believe it was Shotokan and the Sensei had absolutely no clue how to teach kids or even pay attention to us. He was focused more on the adults. Also, we never actually punched or kicked anything. I wanted to punch pads so bad and we wasted time doing slow motion things almost the entire time because he could not seem to teach well. I was extremely bored so my parents let me quit. In some ways I wish I had not quit because if I stayed I could have been really good, yet my life turned toward Taekwondo later and I am thankful and satisfied.

Later in life in 4th grade I enrolled in my private school’s youth Wrestling program and spent 1 season competing as a youth wrestler. I only won 3 matches the entire year and lost everything else. It was annoying because there was no skill levels, just weight classes. So I was always wrestling kids who had years experience and I could barely ever win because I had only been training for a couple months. After the season was over I did not pursue wrestling again. I also wish I kind of did just like my prior Karate class because I would have been good but I switched to homeschooling the next year anyway and never thought to find wrestling. I honestly did not understand the power of grappling as this was pre-UFC days and felt I needed to learn how to kick and punch. So a few years later in 8th grade, at age 13 I joined a Taekwondo gym.

But before joining that Taekwondo gym, in my life, I had always been picked on by bullies. Bullies in the neighborhood would always harass me and scare me. Older mean kids would chase me when I was riding my bike, and other kids threatened to beat me up. Some would grab me an scare the crap out of me. Around age 11 or 12 I always had one mean kid from another neighborhood show up to some girls house on our street who was a tom boy. This kid would always harass me and threaten to beat me up and tried to get me to fight him. He was a really bad kid with a dysfunctional family, and he also smoked. Apparently, his sister was on a popular 90’s talkshow for sleeping with a large amount of men and people would bring it up to him and he would get mad. That tells you about his family. He was absolutely crazy. One time he even came to my house at night and smacked my bedroom window in the middle of the night to scare me. I was always so scared of this kid because I had never been in a fight before and was afraid I would get beat up. I knew I needed skills, strength and confidence to face my fears. I was probably around 10 when this kid started bothering me and it lasted through to age 13 off and on. This kid talked like he was some gangster and would quote Death Row Records lyrics from various rappers like Snoop Dog. He used to scream “Bowowow yippy yo yippy yay! Death row’s in tha mutherf***g house!!” He was a very strange and disturbed kid. When he would yell at me he would flip his shirt up and I never understood why he did that, like it was some gangster rap thing. The tom girl told me he was doing it because gangsters do it to show they have a gun in their pants. But he had nothing, he would just flip it up and I would see his stomach or belt. Made no sense.

This kid was always threatening me, and I don’t know why he mainly singled me out and not anyone else I knew as much. Well he did harass or have insult matches with some of my friends but he mainly targeted me, probably because I was outside more than the others who were playing Nintendo all day, or because I was shy and easy to pick on. My friends would go to 7-Eleven and play Mortal Kombat and I would watch and one time this mean kid found me at 7-Eleven and began insulting me and harassing me and came behind me while I was watching my friend play Mortal Kombat on the arcade machine. He pushed me trying to get me to fight him and he was flicking my ears and laughing in my face, and this lasted for a few minutes. It was extremely humiliating and I was afraid he was going to punch me, but he didn’t. Another time after playing Mortal Kombat at 7-Eleven my friends and I were riding our bikes back to our street and we saw that tomboy girl and one of my dumb and inconsiderate friends decided we should each scream out a fatality move from the game as if we would do them to this bully. I was coaxed into doing it with them and as we rode by one kid said, “I’m going to blow his head off!” (like Raiden’s fatality where he explodes the head with lightening), the dumb and inconsiderate friend who made up this stupid idea said, “I’m going to rip his head off!” (like Sub Zero’s fatality where he pulls off the head with his bare hands), and I finally said, “I’m going to knock his head off!” (like Johnny Cage’s fatality where he knocks the head off with an uppercut). So we rode by her and it was something like this:

*Tomgirl is walking towards us going to the bully’s house in the other neighborhood*

*we 3 ride by fast and yell our fatalities*:

“I’m going to blow his head off!”

“I’m going to rip his head off!”

“I’m going to knock his head off!”

*she smiles and laughs and walks on and we ride off*

WOW THAT WAS SO COOL!!! And we laughed…but unfortunately that only pissed off the bully, and for some reason he ignored what they said and only focused on me saying I will knock his head off. Then he came to my neighborhood and started screaming and going nuts and calling me out to fight. Even my parents heard him and knew he was out there, and my dad said I should fight him. But I was still so afraid. I would like to say that the story ends with an epic fight where I beat him but no it does not. There was never a fight, I never once got to fight him ever. I was too afraid. Eventually this kid moved on and stopped harassing me for some reason but there was never a reason given. He got bored and moved on. He became a cowboy after this and no longer acted like a gangster rapper. He never bothered me again and I would see him with a huge cowboy hat one and he would just not care I was outside and would walk on. Something changed him. Who knows, but I was just glad he did not bother me anymore even though I was full of anger toward him for his bullying. When I started Taekwondo training I knew that if I did have to fight him I would beat him easily. I got over it and also moved on and no longer thought about him.

Around this time in my life and during times when the mean bully from the other neighborhood was not around or was doing other things and it was during a cycle where he was not hanging out with that tomgirl so much I had other issues to deal with. Another couple of bullies was that tomboy herself and 2 mean male twins who lived at the end of my street. The tomgirl would get them to pick on me and call me names and threaten to beat me up. A couple of times I had confrontations and I then finally had my first real fight! The tomgirl and the 2 evil twins confronted me and a friend who were picking grapes from a persons grapevine that hung over a fence. Eventually through all of the threats and insults I got so pissed off. The girl was behind the twins, the older one was in front of her towards me and the younger twin was sitting on a fence and all 3 were insulting us and threatening me and my friend. I got so mad and fed up I just punched the older twin in the jaw, grabbed the back of the other twins shirt and pulled it and sprang him into a punch to his back while I was still holding his clothes which knocked him off balance on the fence. Then the tomgirl, who was very big and strong I might ad (bigger than me), attacked me and I started clinching the older twin and they tackled me and I fell on my back. The tomgirl began to jump double feet onto my chest over and over. My friend pulled them off and then grabbed a metal yard sign and began to attack them. Then some drunk guy across the street came out and said, “You kids get outa here! Stop fighting here!!!” and then me and my friend ran and jumped over a fence and the tomgirl followed in persuit and said, “You may be faster! but I have good balance!!!” We were fighting in someone’s yard on a street corner. Then she proceeded to jump over a fence and when landing on the street she slipped with her shoes on the pavement and skinned her knee. Then I began laughing soooo hard and mocking her about “Ohhh suure you have good balance!” and we ran away. They stopped following us because her knee was bloody. Other times I had confrontations with her and these twins and 3 more times I punched the same older twin in the face on the same spot and would run away and get away. It was a hit and run each time! Over time though, these twins moved away and seemed to calm down and were not under her influence anymore and all 3 stopped bothering me. It was one of those things where you have neighborhood kids who one day are cool with you, then hate you and fight you, then are cool and friendly again later etc., or just plain forget about you. Anyway after this even more problems occurred.

Still there were other mean kids who liked rap music and claimed they were gangsters and would yell “Westsiiiiide!” because of all the Los Angeles gangster rappers like Tu Pac, Ice Cube, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Dr. Dre, Westside Connection etc. were popular on MTV. That was the popular music and all the crazy mean white kids who had a troubled family life would pretend they were Crips and try to beat people up. They hated anyone who did not listen to rap. If you were into rock music or skateboarding or punk you would be targeted. It was gangsters vs skaters in this period of time. Skaters were always the victims of their hate. I still knew I needed to take martial arts classes.

During 6th and 7th grade I talked with some kid in my homeschool group who said he was a black belt in Taekwondo. I thought he must be a crazy awesome fighter. He told me how Taekwondo is the worlds most popular martial art and the best because it focuses on kicking. I thought kicking automatically was the best thing you could do and that’s why martial arts won fights. I did not know that Karate focused on the hand, and of course I thought ninjas were cool growing up. This Taekwondo kid was an ATA student. His instructor was a Vietnam veteran, so he told me that he studied “Military Taekwondo” and there is a camo belt because of it. He acted like he could win any fight and was not afraid to fight anyone. I thought it was so cool. One day my mom found out about a local Taekwondo tournament and she took me to go watch. It was a WTF tournament, but I had no clue about that. During the intermission they had a Filipino martial arts demonstration with sticks I thought was cool. 2 guys were showing self defense techniques doing them so fast and then doing them again in slow motion. It was all about fighting and self defense. With this attitude I assumed Taekwondo was also exactly like self defense and serious fighting techniques. I thought it was so cool kids were fighting and even girls were fighting! I saw a brochure by the host dojang who was running the tournament. The dojang was owned by a Korean master. He taught 3 martial arts: Taekwondo, Hapkido, and Judo. The brochure explained each martial art: that Judo focuses on throws and some joint locks, Hapkido focuses on joint locks with kicks, punches, pressure points, and throws, but Taekwondo focuses on kicks, punches, joint locks, pressure points, knees, elbows and is able to fight multiple opponents. So I thought Taekwondo was the best of all 3 and included every move the other 2 had plus tons of amazing kicks and strikes and was a serious fighting system! I thought Taekwondo contained every move of all fighting basically.

After being totally confident that I needed Taekwondo specifically, I told my mom to let me join Taekwondo and that I need to learn how to fight. I had no clue about Taekwondo being a sport and only considered it as a true fighting art that even Korean soldiers use and it gives you skills to fight in real fights including deadly killing techniques. I told my mom that I am 13 so I need to learn now before I get older. So she enrolled me in a WTF affiliated Taekwondo gym certified by the Kukkiwon. She didn’t understand that stuff and neither did I and had no clue there were other organizations etc. I thought a martial art style was simply a martial art style. But my mom saw the advertisement and went to this instructor’s gym with us and he met with us and told us all about his program. We were sold!

The instructor who ran it was a 3rd dan and eventually got his fourth during my time there. I received my black belt under him, but he took us up to see his teacher who was a Korean grandmaster in another city. I tested under that Korean grandmaster to earn my Kukkiwon ranked black belt at age 16. Before earning my black belt I had experienced various tournaments, lots of Taekwondo training and learning self defense, and even competed in a national tournament. Taekwondo gave me tons of confidence and I felt strong, skilled, and ready to fight anyone who attacked me.

Way before black belt though, I had went through 3 years of training and during that training the problems in the suburban streets did not stop. As mentioned earlier there were all those wannabe gangster kids causing problems everywhere. On occasions they would start fights at their school and also ride together on BMX type bikes in packs and threaten to beat people up. Multiple occasions these kids would ride to my street or I would be going to 7-Eleven or some store and they would stop us and threaten to beat us up. Often times we had to ride our bikes super fast to get away or run. One time me and 2 brothers I knew were riding bikes back from 7-Eleven and a car full of these guys drives by and says something which sounded like “Brazil.” But it made no sense. They were listening to loud rap music and then stopped ahead at the corner of this street. They immediately poured out of the car and flashed the “W” hand sign for “Westside.” They began chasing us and we all had to ride our bikes fast and get away. We were lucky because they were going to beat us up. I think at least 7 guys were in that car.

All of this time in Taekwondo training I was being given a lot of confidence and gaining physical skills and learning self-defense techniques. During my training I often did tournament sparring and a lot of our training was sport specific Olympic rules training. I knew there were all kinds of moves like face punches, knife hands, palm strikes, knees etc we were not sparring with but only did them if there was a self-defense technique for the next belt level we had to learn. We never free flowed with such techniques, nor used much live grappling training. We sometimes did hit targets with them for practice, but no sparring. But we did train for multiple opponents a lot and did drills simulating 5 or so people attacking you as well as sparring 2 or more people at the same time. Unfortunately, my training was not enough.

Around blue belt, and after fighting in a national tournament I got disqualified in for kicking someones head too hard, I was attacked by a local gang made out of the wannabe gangster kids. At least 15 guys and a girl or two were at this park. By this time at age 14 I took up skateboarding and listening to hardcore music. I went to a private Christian school in 8th grade and that ATA Taekwondo guy went to my school as well. So after 8th grade we had remained friends and would skateboard together sometimes and talk about martial arts. He had ninja books and various martial arts books I thought were cool. He was the type of kid who said he wanted to be in special forces when he grew up. At age 15 and a blue belt in Taekwondo I spent the night at his house and we skateboarded and even sparred Taekwondo style in his backyard. It was then I knew he sucked and I could beat him easy. He was extremely slow and I was super fast because of my Olympic style training. Later, we went to this middle school to skateboard not too far off and wanted to come back home around 8pm. By this time it had gotten dark and we had to go through a local park to get to his house. It was dark now and as we skated through the park we came out from a clearing in a pathway with trees to the main parking lot. In the parking lot, just our luck, over 15 or more of those gangster wannabe kids were all in the parking lot hanging out. The baddest of the bad of these kids were all there including people I had never seen before. All of the kids were White kids except one Asian kid who seemed afraid and worried and didn’t want to be involved with violence against us. The entire gang followed us and ran after us and eventually surrounded us because we were too dumb to run because the ATA kid had no clue they were following us. When I informed him he says, “huh? what?” and stops and goes to look (what an idiot) and by this time they showed up and surrounded us walking and circling on on both sides looking so menacing. They repeated, “We hate skaters!!!” and began to threaten us and how they are going to kill us. What ended up happening was the very first and so far only serious beatdown of my entire life. It was a huge wakeup call.

It was me, my ATA black belt friend and his little brother with our skatebaords surrounded by a White wannabe Black suburban hip hop gang in the street in front of the park we skated through. The little brother was able to break through and run away. Me and the ATA black belt remained. One gangster kid says “We hate skaters!!!!” and proceeds to walk towards me saying “Give me your board! Now!” and I said “NO! ITS MINE!” He kept demanding it and I was backing away and kept saying no, and I felt threatened and held my skateboard behind me and I then swung my skateboard at his head the hardest possible way I could and…..ting! It was an “oh no” moment realizing my skateboard only half hit his head only knicking the top of his head as the board turned at impact instead of the hard knockout thud I was aiming for where the full board was supposed to smack him in the head, wheels, trucks and all. Right then 5 guys bulldozed me and took me down to the ground punching me like vicious animals. As I landed on the ground I looked up to see a white high top sneaker heading straight toward my face and *BAM!* I was kicked right in the forehead followed by multiple blows from fists and stomps and kicks all over my head, neck, and back. I was recieving an incredible beatdown that lasted what felt like an eternity. Tons of sreaming and cussing and blows from the gang all over me. It could have been anywhere from 10 seconds to 30 seconds long. Either way it was brutal! Somehow the ATA black belt kid threw them off of me and they left beating me up and then attacked him. I got up extremely dazed but I was not knocked out. Right then the kid I hit in the head with the board came up and I was terrified he was going to kill me and get revenge and he demanded my board. Realizing he could turn it into a weapon I threw it over a fence instead. I was then being punched from every direction on my head and face. My ATA black belt friend was being punched too and ended up fighting 1 or 2 guys in the bushes on his back. The sole Asian guy with these White kids was saying “Hey cmon guys lets just fight them one on one ok!” and trying to get them to not attack us because I guess he had some sense even if he was hanging out with the wrong crowd. Anyway, then some gangster wannabe chick appears after we are being beat up and complains that her boyfriends sunglasses were broken. But he had broken them himself beating us up. How annoying! After all this I finally got to a random house and they called the cops and the gang ran away. Apparently, all of the notion I had about Taekwondo being able to defeat multiple opponents did not work in this case.

The next day we were pissed off and mad we got beat up. We talked to the police the night before and our parents both allowed me to stay over at his house anyway. The next day we went skateboarding to defy the gangs orders that we can’t skateboard there anymore. When we were skating down a road a pickup truck with 3 older guys drove by and parked ahead of us at the corner near a stop sign. We thought they were going to attack us because when the truck drove by it swerved toward us. When we stopped going in their direction the driver flashed the “W” sign for “Westside” out of his wonder and we knew they were going to beat us up so we ran behind a fence. The truck turned around screeching and we ran into a random backyard of some old guy’s house. The guys stopped their truck to look for us and got out and they were really huge white guys. We knew they had been told about us and how we got beat up and they saw us skating and were out to stop us. Luckiyl the old guy saw us in his backyard and said “Hey you kids get out of there!!!” and then we told him we were running from guys trying to kill us and then he saw them out front and said “Whats your problem?” and they said nothing and drove off really fast. We ended up talking to the police about it again. We honestly felt these guys including the 15 guys the right before wanted to literally kill us, no joke.

After such instances I realized I need serious fighting skills for self defense for any situation on the streets and I was wondering why me being a Taekwondo practitioner did not save me in this situation. I was a little angry and my mom was also upset at my instructor since nothing I learned helped me. A lack of emphasis on self defense and more on sport started to be promoted at his gym. The understanding I got disqualified for kicking too hard at a national tournament and then got my ass kicked by a gang really made my mother mad. My mom told my instructor, as did I, that I want to know how to really fight! I want real self defense. Otherwise there is no point to train. My instructor then started to teach us more realistic self defense including takedowns and other various things. Honestly it still was not enough but it was better than before. From that point on I realized Taekwondo has to be serious, it has to be full contact, and it has to be about real world fighting and self defense. Not a sport. The sport is just a side thing for fun but not the main goal of training. That is how I felt and still is my opinion today.

Over the years I kept up my Taekwondo training even though the UFC started taking off in popularity with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu claiming to be the only effective martial art in the world as well as Muay Thai guys making fun of Taekwondo. I was able to train under another Korean grandmaster and paid attention to various self defense and even sparred in a real world sense with people who would let me. Over the years I took classes in various other martial arts styles to understand their theories and supplement anything Taekwondo was lacking. I still train in random styles today especially BJJ and boxing. Only one other time did I get into another serious and scary fight. It was before college and I got attacked at a hardcore punk show by some thug and ended up sending him to the hospital. In this instance my Taekwondo saved my life, or at least saved me from serious injury.

With my determination to train Taekwondo realistically for self defense and try my best to perfect it as much as I could for my own bodies abilities and set my mind on serious combat and crisp technique I want to express it to others. I teach Taekwondo to help other people’s lives and give them the same skillset and abilities I have so they can save their lives in self defense situations. I believe Taekwondo is a martial art and is deadly and effective for self defense and should be promoted for such. Otherwise we are falsely advertising our martial art and going to let down a lot of people if they cannot use anything they learned in an actual fight. Taekwondo made a man out of me and greatly strengthened my life and I know it can do the same for my students. Without Taekwondo I would not be who I am today and have a lower quality of life.

The fact popular Taekwondo culture has profaned the martial art of Taekwondo, and has sold out for money and other silly pride inducing things such as showing off with backflips and TKD-dance recitals, really makes me feel sad. Taekwondo was and is a truly hardcore fighting art and this concept is being lost. It should train you to fight bullies and defeat them, handle multiple opponents such as a gang, and other thugs on the street who want to attack you. It should train you to save your life in a fight. So many people will not train in Taekwondo who want to learn self defense or know how to fight, and will thus skip out on a wonderful life experience and instead go to an amoral gym that teaches MMA or whatever the latest combat craze is. Instead, the wrong kind of people will join Taekwondo classes, spoiled brats, egotistical show offs who want to impress people, and other types. Instead of building confidence and strength in a weak person, it will instead poof up the pride of already arrogant kids. The 5 tenets of Taekwondo and the warrior mindset Taekwondo instilled in me is not going to be expressed much in future generations, including those in Taekwondo gyms today since the combative and warrior mindset is not taught and is traded out for dancing and acrobatics and movie fantasy nonsense and sport Taekwondo with its limited techniques. I hope by reading this story someone can be inspired and to train hard in Taekwondo, love the art, and learn self defense; and somehow a remnant will save Taekwondo from the pop-culture masses that have nearly destroyed any worth it has for real fighting. It also has lost respect and its dignity because of this. Even so, I know there are others who love Taekwondo for the truth and just as Taekwondo has strengthened my life, it has and will strengthen theirs.
