A Teakwondo Axe Kick To The Nuts Is An Effective Technique

Taekwondo is known for a very strong axe kick. The axe kick is one of the few kicks of Taekwondo that make it a unique martial art. Bring your heek up and smash it down on a target, usually the head and face of someone. As Taekwondoin we call this technique nareo-chagi or tokae-bal which are Korean language terms for what we English speakers simply call an axe (or ax) kick.

Olympic Taekwondo axe kick to the face

Demonstrating the Taekwondo axe kick

Even kickboxer’s adopted the axe kick

Here is an axe kick thrown to the face with a very hard impact in Korea between 2 Taekwondo fighters practicing in house sparring, it is the second kick to the face in the video which starts at 1:16:

Well that was a fight ender! What power!

The axe kick can be very powerful with a full forced pull down of the heel into a target. The lower to the ground a target is the more impact, and thus, more damage the heel or sole of the foot will cause. The axe kick is so effective that the U.S. Marines adopted it into their martial arts program.

The marines call the axe kick the “stomp kick.” It really is not so much of a downward stomp as it is an axe kick. This technique is meant to kill.

Before the Marine Core Martial Arts Program there was the Marines LINE Program. The linear infighting neural-override engagement program was the precursor to the MCMAP system of today. In the older U.S. Marines Close-Qaurters Combat Manual an axe kick (stomp kick) finishing technique is shown practically every time a takedown is committed:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Now seeing as the axe kick is a powerful and deadly technique, especially to targets low or on the ground such as the neck, or head imagine what could happen if another area, say the groin was the target!

Yes, a good ol’ Taekwondo axe kick to the nether regions to an opponent is an effective technique. The way it would work is if the attacker, or opponent is on his back on the ground in front of you. This would happen if someone who is fighting you fell backwards or was thrown down. They may not be able to get up right away due to the possibility of you kicking their face or punching them. Most often people who would purposely lay on their back would have some sort of grappling background such as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or he trains MMA. The reason someone would lay there is to hope for you to get inside their guard so they could work a submission. Also, they would want to protect their body from kicks by positioning their legs out so you hit their shins instead.

Here is the axe kick shown in action on a real opponent in an MMA fight and how effective it hurt the opponent:

Even though the axe kick is illegal in MMA, does not mean it does not work. Imagine that same axe kick on an attacker who fell on his back on the streets who is not wearing a cup at all. Imagine the damage and total pain he wold feel! End of fight possibly and demoralizing. Imagine the force of an axe kick with deadly intention such as the Marine’s “stomp” with the precision of a practiced and masterful Taekwondo fighter. Ouch!

Here is another example from MMA:

Now to effectively use the ax kick on someone’s ball or simply anyone’s (male or female) groin area it must be timed properly. The person fighting you has a few options to defend it. The use of legs to deflect your kick can work as well as using the feet to intercept and redirect your heel as it falls down. he can turn his shin over to block your foot, do an up kick to kick your leg or foot, or he can simply roll out of the way if he is fast enough (or you are too slow). He can also catch your foot and drag you on the ground such as this video:

Even though the downed fighter re-directed the axe kick it still hit his groin and it still had to have hurt him, but his sheer determination and pure adrenaline kept him fighting, which can often be the case with someone trying to kill you. Yes, if someone is trying to kill you and he falls backwards you could run, but what if he gets up and chases you? You will have to fight him again. If you are not a marathon runner just fight him there and aim for targets to hit in order to take away his will or functionality. To demoralize an attacker one must have a very accurate and powerful axe kick that will destroy the groin and stop the fight, and his determination to fight.

I for one fully support the use of the Taekwondo axe kick on the balls. This technique has a high degree of chance working on the typical Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighter who is trying to bait you into his open guard. Well his “open” guard is simply asking for a swift axe kick to his groin as hard as possible. Who needs to worry about grappling him when you could axe kick his nuts! but beware, if you miss he will probably catch your foot and leg and go for a seriously brutal submission such as the heel hook or knee bar. So make sure you train for this and aim correctly and time it just right so he does not intercept it. So in a Taekwondo VS Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fight the Taekwondo fighter should try to capitalize on the axe kick to the groin if he can do it. If you are taken down and escape immediately stand up and move away then re-engage him with an axe kick if he has open guard. If you have boots on this technique will hurt even more.

Practice your axe kicks to a downed oponent! Especially to vital targets such as the head, neck, and……GROIN! Tae Kwon Do!

Here is how to train in order to axe kick somebody in the balls:

Laying down an attacker for 5 or so minutes with a brutal axe kick to the groin is sufficient amount of time for you to get away or consider yourself as the victor of the fight.

The Reality Of Children’s Self Defense

So many Taekwondo schools teach self defense to children and advertise things like “bully prevention” and “stranger danger.” They make money off of claiming that the children who train there will learn valuable self defense techniques. Most techniques taught to children are unrealistic and silly and done half assed in order to allow the kid to pass to the next rank or get a stripe on their belt. Basically, a child just has to learn a movement then he or she ranks up. Most of these techniques are incredibly ridiculous and stupid. Some of them range from flashy super power ranger style moves where the adults pretend they are hurt and fly back, or they range from the teachers who think they are teaching something really innovative and true for a child to use for self defense. The following are some examples of very stupid and unrealistic techniques taught to kids by various martial arts teachers that will get a child killed or kidnapped anyway because the moves will not work.

The instructor who thinks he is teaching innovating and important serious techniques:

This is just fluff. Memorizing words to use is pointless. The girl even had a problem remembering what words to use. This is just stuff used to puff up a set of curriculum. It makes kids memorize pointless things to pass tests for belt stripes or their next belt level. This is just to make it seem like what the child is learning is really deep or complex. realistically, all a kid needs to be told is to scream and tell the guy to stop, and tell anyone near them that the guy is trying to kidnap them or they don’t know him. What a child needs to remember to say are the basic ideas of what bad thing is happening to them, and to express what is going on to any bystanders. That is all a kid needs to know. Not special phrases. The instructor goes on about words and weapons we use blah blah…he is being an egghead over the simplest concept any child can understand. The technique itself is also very ineffective. The girl in the video footage they used was not even trained in martial arts. She just used common sense and got out of the pedophile’s hold. The instructor demonstrated a hold where a pedophile, rapist pervert would hold a kid with one hand over the mouth and the other around her waist. He tells the girl to kick backwards, duck her head down and headbutt backwards and to then drive her hips out and the bad guy would just drop her. That is unrealistic and would never play out that easy. The girl in the video got loose simply by struggling like crazy and the bad guy dropped her out of fear other people at Walmart might hear her and see him more than her struggling. If someone was abducted anywhere that is not Walmart or not around many people simply driving a foot back is not going to work. Notice the instructor himself has very long legs which means he has a very high crotch. She could not hit his testicles that hard from such a backward ankle kick. Yes, it could hurt but in previous articles on this blog it has already been proven a “nut shot” is not a guaranteed fight ender. Yes it does help, and is good to know, but more needs to be done. The girl should actually immediately grab the attacker’s hand over her mouth and work on it at the same time as kicking back. Don’t just leave the arms limp! Work the fingers to try and break and pull joints, bite them etc. Loosen her mouth to be able to scream and yell for help. Also, a headbutt might actually hurt the child more than the adult if she hits a hard part of his face and not the nose. The back of the head has sensitive nerves that can short circuit the brain and cause a shake up, or possibly a knockout. A child does not have a big enough head or a powerful enough strike because they are not strong enough and are too small. The hip out thing was okay but there are various ways to lower the center of gravity. She should have been twisting and turning, and using downward backfists or knifehands to the balls. The worst part of this child anti-abduction technique was the fact after the bad guy lets her loose she then turns toward him and begins to attack him. HOW STUPID! Such weak kicks, short elbows not long enough to reach a vital target and “Stranger! Stranger! This person’s trying to take me! No! No! No!” was a memorized line. And the way she said it was nonchalant. No child would remember to say that in such stress. It’s why it’s best to tell them to just communicate the idea of the negative action that is occurring towards them to people around them. They can come up with their own words. The punches would not hurt a grown adult either and would allow the attacker to easily grab her wrists and pick her up again. The pedophile would then proceed to just punch her in the face and take her anyway.

Idiotic children’s self defense techniques taught by none other than the American Taekwondo Association (ATA):

Sorry that “warrior face” is not going to stop an adult trying to kidnap a child. This is some ridiculous, hyper nonsense from typical mcdojangs like the ATA. Having kids spazz out and overreact to bullies and other nonsense. If you literally went to look for a job with a “warrior face” and acted that stupid and spazzed out, you would never get hired. Also, such attitudes instill false security in kids who are conditioned to think bullies act a certain way and adult kidnappers act the way they demonstrated as well. In the real world when the kids find out their spazztic “warrior faces” do not scare anyone, but makes them just look incredibly idiotic to other kids they will be utterly defeated and bullies will be more encouraged the bully them for being dorks. All the pop psychology teaching of being assertive, and self esteem does not mean crap when a pedophile rapist is trying to kidnap a child. Saying “Yes I can!” Won’t save a child from a full grown adult. The technique they teach for getting out of a hold just looks like kids waving their hands around grasping at nothing. Then of course to keep their self esteem up the adult “black belts” just casually drop the kid softly onto the floor so they can walk off. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN THAT WAY! The instructor even admits that the chances of escape are very slim. He then ironically states that kids screaming may look to others just like a bratty kid, and not one who is in danger, yet they teach the kids to scream and act bratty with crazy “warrior faces” and yelling. Then the instructor teaches the kids to grab the attacker’s leg and hang on it and calls it a “ball and chain.” So stupid! Why would you tell a child to do that! Once a child escapes he should run and get away as fast as he can. Not grab the leg and hang on the attacker. Sorry, but the idea that the child will slow the attacker down so he cannot get away is absolutely false. I can have a child attached onto my leg and walk as fast as I can and even run, I could even run into a car and take him away. The attacker would not find the child easy to throw off his leg either with any shaking of the leg and strikes. He would then pick the kid back up and take off. The point for children and self defense against adults is to ESCAPE AND STAY GONE! Not go back and hit or grab the leg for a ride. So stupid!

Then there is the typical “kid beats up adult” demo that so many mcdojangs use which are basically cheesy fight scenes:

This kind of demo is the silly “kid beats up an adult” demo. What mcdojangs do and have for decades is use their “superstar,” enthusiastic, acrobatic kid to do cool flips and spin kicks on some adult who just flops around and pretends to be beat up with the most fantastic and crazy moves. This kind of show is pointless and has nothing of value to teach children for self defense and tells the outsider that “your kid can learn to fight adults like this!” to ignorant people.

NOW HOW IT WILL REALLY GO DOWN:

The following video is more likely how a real child self defense scenario against an adult will go down for the typical child student.

This is a good video that shows the truth. Notice the young student could not get out of the hold under pressure. But doing the move itself is fine, but when there is real resistance he could not do it. That is the reality. The technique is more plausible and realistic as well, the student just needs to practice at it more and he will get it down better.

An instructor of martial arts has a duty to teach realistic self defense for people including children! Do not claim something is going to work or give the assumption it is flaw free or a smart technique unless it really is! Train the children! Train! Train! Over and over with resistance and pressure. Over time the student will learn. Make sure it is done with a serious mindset and not mindless yelling and spazzy behavior, and make sure when the kid gets free he gets away! Not re-engage the adult attacker. Instructors are partly responsible for a child either escaping an attacker and getting free by teaching them an effective martial art, or being kidnapped when using faulty martial arts techniques their instructor taught them. Taekwondo instructors need to teach with realism and not make anything simply easy for a child to pass a test to get some stripe of tape on his belt, or get a new belt color rank! If money is all you care about and you are eager to charge partents belt fees, pre-testing tape on the belt fees and other nonsense then you are a dangerous instructor that parents should avoid! It is the martial arts instructor’s responsibility to teach effective techniques to help kids save their own lives and I personally will not allow bad ideas in my curriculum.

Taekwondo Stone Hands Conditioning

If you are going to be a serious Taekwondoin you should condition your hands and make them hard so you can punch things without breaking your hand as easy. Karate guys do, and real Taekwondo masters always have done it. The mcdojangization of Taekwondo has nearly made this type of training obsolete. Let’s bring it back! It is a black belt requirement in my program! If you do not have a makiwara try these methods in these convenient videos below! Enjoy!

Train hard! Tae Kwon Do! Hopefully you will be able to punch people’s skulls without damaging your hands! Enjoy punching people in the face!

Super Cute Little Girl Mimicking Olympic Taekwondo

Check this little cutie out she is soooooooo adorable! DAAAAAAA!!!

CUTE! CUTE! CUTE!!!!! CUUUUTE!!!!! AAAA!!!

She is doing a very good impersonation of Olympic Taekwondo fighters. very funny. But she is already working bad habits for self defense by keeping her arms down. Hopefully she will learn to fight self defense and not only Olympic style. BUT SHE IS SO CUUUTE!

Important Rule For Street Self Defense: Don’t Give Attitude Back Unless You Have To

An important rule for being safe on the streets and able to defend yourself is do not give into your emotions. Check your attitude. Do not give any lip back to jerkoffs who probably deserve it. You never know how crazy they are or how many friends they might have. For instance watch this video:

I know it is very hard to not say anything back to total idiots who disrespect you or talk trash to you on the streets. The best thing to do it walk away or just stay quiet and wait until you can leave. In the case of the video the man should have just let the idiot be “gangster” and walk slowly in front of his car and on his way and he could just look ahead and bite his lip and drive on and he would have had a great day. Maybe he would be mad for awhile and need to vent about the total jerk, but emotions subside and eventually he would feel better. Brass knuckles, kicks to the head and punches take a lot longer to go away. He was even bigger than virtually all of the guys who attacked him.

In my opinion to be safe you need to be confident and have humility and understand even if guys insult you, it does not mean it is true and it does not make you less of a man to back off or walk away. You are the bigger person and more mature and they are losers. Believe it! Only fight if you have to!

Now I do believe there are times in life to give some attitude back and not to back down from a fight. These cases are completely different than random street confrontations against strangers. There are times to fight bullies, defend your honor and stand up for yourself because I truly believe sometimes a kid has to fight someone to make him stop bullying him (but obviously only fight if you know you can win). But this video news report was not that kind of situation. It is best to just let it go and and work on managing your anger. Martial arts training allows people to let out aggression and work on control of the entire person as well as give them self defense knowledge and if this victim had been training he would not have ended up in this situation to begin with.

Awesome Triple Kick Knockout

Here is an awesome triple kick knockout. Not only is it a triple kick, but it is a retreating triple kick falling backwards. He hit him perfectly on the spot! Convulsions!

Not sure what country this is in. If anyone knows say it in the comments.

UFC Fighter Gets Owned At A Bar: MMA Training Does Not Automatically Make You Self Defense Capable

UFC fighter Cody Gibson recently got pushed hard, sucker punched in the face, and punched some on the ground in a Las Vegas bar. The only words that can describe this situation is,

“Wow what an idiot. If he knew self defense he could have avoided this situation, and if not, could have easily defended that punch.”

Watch the video:

His ego got in the way and then he wanted to fight and stood there acting like he was baiting him in to fight with his fists up. All he should have done if he intended to fight was immediately kick him or punch him or attack. Also, takedowns might impress MMA judges (because they are idiots and think that matters in a fight), but takedowns don’t mean anything in a street fight unless you do something with it. Like punch the guy a lot by ground and pound or submit him. Obviously the drunk guy who beat him up did not even get hurt much except maybe a little rough landing from the initial takedown.

Many MMA guys who train at the local MMA gym think they have a social status above average people, especially anyone training in traditional martial arts. So much is said about how Taekwondo does not work on the streets. Well, why didn’t this guy’s MMA work on the streets?

Do not put your confidence in MMA or whatever trendy martial art is cool now, or any martial art for that matter. Put confidence in your ability to defend yourself. Don’t allow your ego to take over and cause you more trouble. Avoid street fights! If you can’t then take them out sooner than later. And don’t egg a drunk person on.

By the way I watch MMA and think it is cool and enjoy UFC Fight Nights on Fox Sports 1. I am not anti-MMA, just anti-MMA onlyist morons.

Women, Stop Avoiding Eye Contact

Women, stop avoiding eye contact when you walk by a man on a walkway or sidewalk, or even in a hallway. I was out walking today after doing a light workout and I came across 2 women. One was older who looked like she was the other girl’s mother. The other girl was probably high school or early college aged. Both of them did not give me any eye contact and the younger girl especially looked totally away with her eyes as if to avoid eye contact on purpose. All this signaled to me is they were both afraid of me and felt uncomfortable walking right up to me as I passed. This shows you are weak and vulnerable.

A potential predator will take advantage of you and would attack when you are not looking at him. Instead, make slight eye contact to show you see him, you are aware of him, and you are not afraid of him. Why should you be afraid? Chances are most men walking outside are not predators and will not harm you and will not do anything to bother you. Guys like me. On the other hand, there are bad guys who are out looking for a victim, or at the right time will take advantage of a situation randomly if he knows he can obtain a victim. Avoiding eye contact just alerts an attacker that you are easy to attack and weak. Most attackers will not bother you if you look at them and show confidence. Even nodding or a slight smile or even saying “Hey” as you walk will also display confidence and deflect most predators from attacking you. Bad guys want an easy victim who is unaware. Do not look at your cell phone either and pretend you are texting or reading something JUST to avoid looking at a guy. That is very obvious. Always be aware of your surroundings!

If you feel uncomfortable or nervous because you are shy, you should work on it and practice slight eye contact. Normal eye contact should be 1 second long or less. Just a display that you know he is there. This says to anyone, “I see you, I notice you, and I know where I am going.” Walk as if you know where you are going. But if you are actually lost or not sure where you are headed do not communicate this. Just walk normal and act casual, do not speed up or act overly aggressive with over doing eye contact. Bad guys will catch on to your bluff.

On the other hand do not at all over do your eye contact, do not be overly nice or polite, do not smile excessively at a strange man walking toward you. Do not come off as if you are allowing him to say hello to you and strike up a conversation, that is, unless you want him to. But make sure you are not rude, be polite just not overly polite. Do not disrespect them either because a weirdo rapist bad guy might get offended and want to attack you for it.

Oh no, this guy is walking toward you on the sidewalk. What are you going to do? First why are you afraid to begin with, second just give him eye contact and be confident and walk past him!

Do not assume every male out there is a rapist serial killer. But do not assume every guy is a chivalrous, moral, and good man either. Use your head! These are some self defense tips for the ladies out there! Be confident!

On The Subject Of Joint Lock Availability In Street Fights And Groin Shots

Joint locks are readily available in certain situations

In my experience people have often said no one will hold you long enough to where you could have the ability to perform a wrist lock or standing armbar. They say it is unrealistic to drill wrist locks, armbars, elbow and shoulder locks etc. They say no one will hold you like that, or take the time to hold you long enough for you to be able to joint lock someone and take them out. I disagree and believe in many circumstances one could easily joint lock and break the wrist, arm, elbow, and dislocate shoulders in a street fighting or self defense situation. It depends on how an attacker is holding you or if he is hitting you or not. The following video shows many opportunities the person being assaulted (who happens to look like Nicholas cage lol) could have used if he had trained in martial arts and was not drunk.

I have absolutely no clue what they were fighting over or why the guy thought he needed to apprehend the other guy and hold him, and then also knee him in the balls and wait for cops to arrive. That is beside the point of this short article.

Groin shots are not always a fight ender

The man in the blue jacket was obviously kneed in the balls, and yet he was not harmed enough to cause him to drop down or fall over in pain. He did not quit and was still standing. This shows that a typical groin shot is not always going to end a fight, especially if a guy is drunk. It may or may not cause someone to keel over in pain.

Just some thoughts today on self defense and street fighting situations! Practice wrist and arm locks and shoulder locks from standing! It can work!
